Short answer: Software engineers in Dubai most commonly earn between AED 8,000 and AED 15,000 a month at junior level (0–2 years), AED 15,000 to AED 28,000 at mid level (3–5 years), AED 25,000 to AED 45,000 at senior level (6–10 years), and AED 40,000 to AED 75,000 or more beyond 10 years. Those bands hide a wide split: job-board advertisements from smaller employers average far lower than salaries reported by engineers at larger firms, so this guide labels the two kinds of data separately, with a source and collection date on every figure.
For an Indian engineer comparing an offer, the monthly figure in dirhams is only half the picture. A mid-level salary of AED 20,000 (≈ ₹5,12,600) a month, a junior salary of AED 10,000 (≈ ₹2,56,300), and a senior salary of AED 35,000 (≈ ₹8,97,100) read very differently once rent and family costs are set against them. The sections below keep the dirham figure primary, because that is what an offer letter states, and use the live converter for any rupee equivalent.
Salary by experience: the bands
The table below combines reported salaries from salary platforms and recruiter placement data collected in 2026. It is a range for full-time, Dubai-based roles, stated as gross monthly pay before any allowances are broken out.
| Experience | Reported monthly range (AED) | Main sources |
|---|---|---|
| 0–2 years (junior) | 8,000 – 15,000 | Flowace (Aug 2026); Wuzzufny (2026) |
| 3–5 years (mid level) | 15,000 – 28,000 | Flowace; Wuzzufny; Meettal (June 2026) |
| 6–10 years (senior) | 25,000 – 45,000 | Flowace; Wuzzufny; Meettal |
| 10+ years (lead / staff / principal) | 40,000 – 75,000+ | Flowace; Wuzzufny |
Two independent guides, Flowace and Wuzzufny, agree almost exactly on the junior band of AED 8,000 to AED 15,000. For mid-level engineers the overlap is AED 16,000 to AED 28,000, and recruiter Meettal, reporting actual placements in the first half of 2026, puts strong mid-level engineers higher, at AED 18,000 to AED 30,000. At senior level Meettal again sits at the top of the range, at AED 30,000 to AED 50,000, and notes that fintech and DIFC firms go above AED 60,000 for strong product engineers. The practical reading is that the table describes the broad market, while funded fintech, banks and large product companies form a higher sub-market inside it.
Advertised pay vs reported pay: why the averages disagree
Anyone who checks three salary sites finds three different averages, and the difference is method, not error. Separating the sources makes the picture clear.
Advertised (job-board postings)
Indeed UAE, drawing on salaries in job postings over the previous 36 months and updated on 22 October 2026, gives an average of AED 6,016 a month for a software engineer in Dubai, with a typical range of AED 2,307 to AED 15,691 across 109 salaries. That sample leans towards smaller and local employers who post a stated salary, and towards junior-heavy hiring. It is a real figure, but it describes advertised pay at one end of the market, not what engineers across Dubai actually take home.
Reported (salary platforms)
Glassdoor, drawing on 1,109 to 1,154 salaries submitted by employees in Dubai as of November 2026, gives a base-pay range of AED 10,000 to AED 25,000 a month, with average base pay around AED 15,000 to AED 17,000 a month depending on the exact job title grouping. PayScale, on a much smaller sample, gives an average base salary of AED 91,300 a year, with early-career engineers (1–4 years) at average total compensation of AED 87,498 and mid-career engineers (5–9 years) at AED 135,000, based on 11 to 13 salaries per band. GulfTalent figures summarised by Zero Tax Jobs sit lower again, at an average of about AED 84,000 a year, with senior developers at about AED 162,000 a year, reflecting that portal’s mix of employers.
The honest conclusion is that there is no single average worth quoting alone. An advertised average near AED 6,000 and a reported base average near AED 15,000 to AED 17,000 can both be correct for their samples. Offer evaluation is better done against the experience band and the company type than against any city-wide average.
Salary by role: backend, frontend, full-stack and DevOps
Role-level data for Dubai is thinner than experience-level data, so the distinctions below are stated only where sources support them.
- Full-stack: Glassdoor’s small full-stack sample (4 salaries, October 2026) shows base pay of AED 10,000 to AED 20,000 a month, averaging about AED 17,000. Wuzzufny’s specialisation table places full-stack developers at AED 20,000 to AED 35,000 a month, a range that reflects more senior full-stack hiring.
- Backend: Backend roles track the general senior curve closely, and Meettal’s placement data puts senior software engineers, most of them backend and distributed-systems hires, at AED 30,000 to AED 50,000.
- Frontend: No major platform publishes a separate, well-sampled Dubai frontend band; frontend pay in recruiter guides generally sits at or slightly below the equivalent backend band at the same experience level.
- DevOps / cloud: Meettal notes that mid-level engineers with cloud or distributed-systems experience trend towards the upper end of the AED 18,000 to AED 30,000 mid-level placement range. Wuzzufny similarly treats cloud and platform skills as a premium factor, and its table places AI and machine-learning engineers highest of all, at AED 30,000 to AED 55,000.
Where a platform does not publish a separate figure, this guide does not invent one. The pattern across sources is consistent: specialisation moves pay within the experience band, while experience and company type move the band itself.
What the package includes: allowances and tax
Dubai salaries are usually quoted as a total monthly package. By long-standing practice, and as Wuzzufny notes, total compensation on top of base salary, once housing, transport and annual flight allowances are counted, can add roughly 20 to 40 percent in employer cost terms; for the employee, the important point is how much of the quoted figure is basic salary, because end-of-service gratuity is calculated on the basic component alone. Comparing two offers therefore means comparing both the total and the basic split.
On tax, the position is factual and simple: the UAE Government portal (u.ae), on its Taxation page, states that the UAE does not levy income tax on individuals. Employment income in Dubai is therefore paid without personal income tax deducted. That statement covers UAE tax only; it says nothing about any tax position in another country, which depends on that country’s rules and on individual circumstances.
Set against pay, the main costs for an Indian professional in Dubai are housing, schooling where applicable, and health insurance arrangements. The salary bands above sit in the context of the wider Dubai pay market described in the guide to the average salary in Dubai, and the detailed breakdown in the guide to the cost of living in Dubai for Indians. Because gratuity builds on basic salary over time, the gratuity calculator shows what the basic-salary component is worth at the end of service.
Free-zone vs mainland employers
Sources support a distinction, stated carefully. Meettal’s June 2026 placement report records that funded fintech and DIFC-regulated firms routinely close 15 to 30 percent above aggregator guides, with strong product engineers above AED 60,000 a month. Zero Tax Jobs, whose listings are restricted to larger, foreigner-facing employers, records a median of about AED 420,000 a year across its Dubai software engineering listings. Neither source publishes a clean mainland-only comparison table, so this guide does not claim a precise free-zone premium percentage. The supported statement is narrower: employers in DIFC and the large free-zone tech clusters appear at the top of the reported ranges, while the lowest advertised averages come from smaller mainland employers posting on general job boards.
Frequently asked questions
What is the average software engineer salary in Dubai?
Reported base pay on Glassdoor averages about AED 15,000 to AED 17,000 a month (November 2026, over 1,100 salaries), while advertised pay on Indeed averages AED 6,016 a month (October 2026). Experience bands are more useful: AED 8,000–15,000 junior, AED 15,000–28,000 mid level, AED 25,000–45,000 senior.
Is software engineer salary in Dubai tax-free?
The UAE does not levy income tax on individuals, as stated on the UAE Government portal (u.ae). Salary is paid without personal income tax deducted in the UAE.
What does a fresher software engineer earn in Dubai?
Two 2026 guides, Flowace and Wuzzufny, both place junior engineers with 0–2 years of experience at AED 8,000 to AED 15,000 a month. Advertised postings for entry roles can sit below that range.
Which role pays more in Dubai: backend, frontend, full-stack or DevOps?
Published Dubai data is limited by role. Cloud and DevOps skills trend to the upper end of each experience band in recruiter placement data, full-stack averages about AED 17,000 base on Glassdoor’s small sample, and no well-sampled separate frontend band is published.
Sources and method
Figures were collected on 8 November 2026. Method: for each band, a median-style range was taken from the overlap of at least two independent sources; advertised data (Indeed job postings) and reported data (Glassdoor, PayScale employee submissions; Meettal and Wuzzufny recruiter data) are labelled separately throughout and never averaged together.
