Cost of Living in Dubai for a Family of 4 (with CBSE Schooling)

1 AED = ₹25.63Reference rateUpdated 7 Nov 2026, 22:58 GST

The short answer: a two-adult, two-child Indian family in Dubai, with both children in CBSE schools and a two-bedroom flat in an Indian-family area, spends about AED 15,700 a month on the worked budget below — rent AED 5,000, school costs AED 3,350, and groceries AED 3,200 are the three lines that decide everything else. On a household income of AED 25,000, the arithmetic leaves AED 9,300 a month after every line is paid. Each figure carries its source and date; the single-person and couple budgets are in cost of living in Dubai for Indians, and rents by neighbourhood are in rent in Indian areas of Dubai.

The worked monthly budget

Assumptions, stated once: 2 adults + 2 children (primary and middle school), 2BR flat in Al Nahda, both children in mid-tier CBSE schools, one car, dependent health cover at mid-tier. School figures use the KHDA-based ranges in the bundle’s CBSE school fees in Dubai guide rather than a second set of numbers.

Rent: the listing sample behind AED 5,000

Method: asking prices sampled on 8 November 2026 from dubizzle listings for 2-bedroom family flats in Al Nahda 1 posted through October–November 2026 — AED 55,000–60,000 a year, unfurnished, typically 4–6 cheques. Asking prices are labelled asking: the cross-check is registered-contract data, where McCone Properties’ count of Ejari contracts for the 12 months to 7 November 2026 puts the 2BR median at AED 58,426 in Al Nahda and AED 56,000 in International City. The budget deliberately uses the top of the asking sample (AED 60,000) rather than the median contract, because new leases price above renewal medians. The two lines most budgets forget sit directly under rent: the 5% housing fee (AED 250/month here) collected through the DEWA bill, and DEWA consumption itself — published 2BR estimates run AED 380–550 in mild months and AED 550–800 in summer, averaged here at AED 600.

School costs: CBSE is the family’s swing line

Dubai’s private-school fees are regulated by the KHDA, and Indian-curriculum schools are the most affordable regulated option: published 2026-27 ranges put CBSE/ICSE tuition broadly at AED 6,000–30,000 per child per year, with named mid-tier schools such as Delhi Private School Dubai at AED 12,000–28,000 and GEMS Our Own Indian School at AED 10,000–18,000; KHDA has frozen private tuition for 2026-27. The budget’s two children at AED 15,000 and AED 18,000 sit inside those ranges and match the fee structure detailed in the CBSE school fees guide. Transport, books and uniforms are real money on top of tuition — AED 600 a month as a monthly equivalent across the school year — and are the part of schooling most first budgets omit.

Car vs metro, in numbers

The worked budget runs one car at AED 1,000 a month all-in: roughly AED 600 fuel, AED 250 as the monthly equivalent of insurance and registration, and AED 150 of Salik tolls and parking — excluding the purchase price or loan payment itself, which varies too much by car to budget honestly as a single figure. The metro alternative for two commuting adults — two Nol cards with regular zone travel — typically lands near AED 600 a month for the household, but serves only the adults’ commutes; school transport is already counted in the school line. The honest summary is arithmetic: the car costs about AED 400 a month more than the metro case in this budget, and buys door-to-door family travel the metro does not provide.

What is left to send home

This is arithmetic, not advice. At a household income of AED 25,000 (≈ ₹6,40,800), the worked budget of AED 15,700 leaves AED 9,300 a month — in rupees, AED 9,300 (≈ ₹2,38,400) at the reference rate, before any transfer fee or rate margin on the send itself. At AED 20,000 of income the same budget leaves AED 4,300; at AED 18,000 it leaves AED 2,300, which is why the school tier and the rent are the two decisions that determine the remittance line — a cheaper CBSE school or an International City rent moves the remainder more than any saving on groceries. Dependent health cover is inside the budget at AED 750 a month; the full rules and price bands behind that line are in health insurance in Dubai for family and dependents. One-off move-in costs — agency fee (typically 5% of annual rent), DEWA deposit and Ejari — sit outside this monthly table and are covered in the main cost-of-living guide.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a family of four need per month in Dubai?

On this worked CBSE budget, AED 15,700 a month covers rent, schooling, food, transport and dependent insurance. Published generic-family estimates run higher — Numbeo’s estimator put a family of four at AED 15,081 a month excluding rent alone (6 November 2026) — because they assume costlier schooling and areas.

What is the rent for a 2-bedroom flat in an Indian area of Dubai?

Asking prices sampled 8 November 2026: AED 55,000–60,000 a year in Al Nahda; Ejari registered medians: AED 58,426 (Al Nahda) and AED 56,000 (International City) for the year to 7 November 2026.

How much are CBSE fees for two children?

KHDA-based ranges put CBSE tuition at roughly AED 6,000–30,000 per child per year by school and grade; this budget uses AED 33,000 a year for two children in mid-tier schools, plus AED 600 a month for transport, books and uniforms.

What is the housing fee on a Dubai DEWA bill?

5% of the annual rent, divided by 12 and collected monthly through DEWA — AED 250 a month on a AED 60,000 rent.
