1 AED = ₹25.63Reference rateUpdated 7 Nov 2026, 22:58 GST
The short answer: on this month’s fixed basket, the app with a welcome offer (Remitly) put the most rupees into India on AED 1,000, while Al Ansari Exchange’s published rate edged the same basket on AED 5,000 — and the two exchange houses beat Wise’s published AED 1,000 recipient figure. The ranking flips with the amount because fees are partly fixed and rates are not. Every figure below is stamped with its basis and check date; the full method is in the best way to send money from UAE to India guide, and the app-only duel is in Wise vs Remitly for UAE to India.
1 AED = ₹25.63Reference rateUpdated 7 Nov 2026, 22:58 GSTThe fixed-basket snapshot — checked 8 November 2026
Same two baskets for every provider: AED 1,000 and AED 5,000 to an Indian bank account, ranked by rupees received. Where a provider publishes a live recipient figure, that figure is used. Where it does not, the rupees received are arithmetic from that provider’s published rate and fee, and the row is labelled modelled — never presented as a live quote.
| Rank (AED 1,000) | Provider | Rate used | Fee | INR received on AED 1,000 | INR received on AED 5,000 | Basis |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Remitly (app) | 25.68 | AED 0 | ₹25,680 | ₹128,400 | Published on remitly.com — welcome rate, zero fees on AED→INR; first-transfer pricing |
| 2 | Al Ansari Exchange | 25.75 | AED 10 | ₹25,493 | ₹128,493 | Modelled — published comparison rate + fee (Oct 2026); official fee band AED 0–25.24 + 5% VAT per its Key Facts Statement |
| 3 | Lulu Exchange | 25.4923 | No fee (est.) | ₹25,492 | ₹127,462 | Published rate snapshot, 7 Nov 2026, 15:35 UAE time (RateWala) |
| 4 | Wise (app) | 25.59 | AED 15.95 on AED 1,000 | ₹25,179 | ₹126,541 (modelled) | AED 1,000 recipient figure published by CompareRemittanceRates; AED 5,000 modelled from the same rate + Wise’s published UAE fee of 1.10% |
Reference point: the mid-market rate behind these quotes was AED 1,000 (≈ ₹25,600) at the stored reference rate — no provider can pay the full mid-market amount after costs, and the gap between that figure and each row is the provider’s total take (fee plus margin). Note the ranking reversal: Remitly’s zero fee wins the small basket, but at AED 5,000 a fixed AED 10 fee fades against the rate, and Al Ansari’s published rate produces the largest recipient figure. A first-transfer welcome rate also expires — repeat Remitly transfers price off its standard rate, which is not the 25.68 shown here.
Fee, margin, speed: how each route actually charges
Al Ansari Exchange
The UAE’s largest exchange-house network (200+ branches; some sources count 280 including all formats). Its official Key Facts Statement for international bank transfers to India gives service charges of AED 0.00–25.24 plus 5% VAT, with no back-end charges; the balance of its cost sits in the exchange rate. Transfers to India run same-day, with UPI-linked delivery advertised in minutes. Official site: alansariexchange.com.
Lulu Exchange
LuLu International Exchange is Central Bank-licensed, with its LuLu Money app alongside branches. Its published schedule of charges puts South and South-East Asia remittances broadly in an AED 15–25 band at counters, while app promotions periodically waive the fee — in which case, as with every “zero-fee” offer, the margin in the rate is the whole cost. India delivery is same-day by bank deposit or UPI. Official site: luluexchange.com.
Wise
Wise converts at the mid-market rate and charges one transparent percentage fee instead of a margin — published at 1.10% for a bank-funded UAE send (AED 38.48 on AED 3,500, in a September 2026 published quote). That structure is easiest to audit, but on this snapshot its all-in AED 1,000 result trailed both exchange houses. Delivery to Indian bank accounts is typically minutes to one day. Official site: wise.com.
Remitly
Remitly’s published AED→INR pricing at check date was a promotional welcome rate of 25.68 with zero fees — the strongest AED 1,000 result here, and explicitly a new-customer rate. Its standard pricing after the first transfer is set at checkout and is not published as a fixed table, which is why this snapshot labels the basis rather than projecting it forward. Delivery options include bank deposit and UPI, typically same-day. Official site: remitly.com.
ID, limits and payment: counter vs app
At a walk-in counter, the sender shows an Emirates ID (a passport is accepted for visitors) and can pay in cash — including from a Wage Protection System salary card — which no app route replicates. In an app, identity is verified once at registration by scanning the Emirates ID, and payment must come from a bank account or card in the sender’s name. Per-transfer limits are highest at counters and bank channels for documented large sends, while apps apply their own tiered limits that rise with verification level; every licensed provider must show the total cost and the exact recipient amount before a transfer is confirmed, and fees in the UAE carry 5% VAT where a fee applies.
When a branch genuinely wins — and when it doesn’t
A walk-in branch wins on facts, not nostalgia, in four situations: paying in cash or from a salary card with no bank account; a recipient who needs cash pickup in India rather than a bank deposit; a first-ever transfer where counter staff complete the ID and beneficiary setup in person; and a large, documented send where a negotiated counter rate can be compared on the spot. An app wins when the sender is banked, sends monthly to the same beneficiary, and can time the transfer — the quote is visible before commitment, there is no travel or queue, and promotional rates (like the Remitly welcome rate above) are app-only. The World Bank’s Remittance Prices Worldwide survey (Q3 2025) put the average cost of sending about AED 735 to India at 3.72% and about AED 1,835 at 2.19% across all channels — every route in the snapshot above prices well inside that average, which is why the choice turns on the situations above rather than on headline fees. Whichever channel is used, the comparison that matters is rupees received for the same basket on the same day — the method behind the AED to INR today reference page.
Frequently asked questions
Which is cheaper in the UAE: an exchange house or an app?
On the 8 November 2026 snapshot, an app (Remitly, welcome rate) won AED 1,000 and an exchange house (Al Ansari, published rate) won AED 5,000. There is no permanent winner — the fixed fee vs rate balance flips the ranking by amount.
What ID is needed to send money from an exchange house?
An Emirates ID at the counter (passport for visitors). Apps scan the same ID once during registration.
Is a zero-fee transfer actually free?
No. Where the fee is zero, the provider’s cost and margin sit in the exchange rate. The recipient figure is the only complete measure.
How fast do these routes reach India?
Exchange houses quote same-day bank delivery, with UPI delivery in minutes on advertised routes; Wise quotes minutes to one day; Remitly quotes same-day bank deposit on this corridor.
Why does Wise rank last here when it uses the mid-market rate?
Because its percentage fee (1.10% published for UAE sends) is deducted after conversion at mid-market, while the exchange houses’ margins on this snapshot were smaller than that fee on these baskets.
